Who/What are the Black Dragons?
The Black Dragons draw inspiration from the medieval period, with a slight focus on 12th to 15th century Bohemia. This was a time of turmoil in Europe and it would not be uncommon to find mercenary companies bolstering and fighting for, or in addition to, a lord's own company of men. It would not be unusual for these types of companies to move from town to town, or even country to country, selling their services wherever conflict existed.
Is this group part of another? Or is this a stand-alone group? Can I be part of other groups and still be a member of the Black Dragons?
The Black Dragons is its own group, answerable only to itself and its own actions. We are certainly open and willing to work with other groups, so long as the arrangement is proportional and equitable to all.
As for membership, you can be in as many groups as you like, this does not impact or prevent you from being a member of the Black Dragons.
How can I be a part? Can I join?
Anyone can apply to become a member. The only real requirements are to have fun and to treat everyone with respect.
Are there any garb requirements?
The short answer, no.
The long answer, it's entirely up to you and your comfort and/or budget level. Our focus can help with ideas on how to dress or how to fit a theme, but everyone is unique and not everyone needs to dress alike.
A good rule of thumb to help here is that mercenaries can be very diverse, both in background and dress, but they work together for a common goal.
How about fantasy themed characters?
Fantasy garb is welcome, so long as it fits with the theme we are trying to portray.
Are there actual rules? Or do you have just guidelines?
Yes, rules of conduct are currently being worked on and they will be forthcoming soon. For now, we are using the basic guidelines of:
Have Fun
Be Respectful and Courteous (both in words and deeds)
Treat others as you would like to be treated
For now, these simple guidelines should be able to be followed by all.
Is there a ranking system?
At this moment, no. That said, there are plans to only use three ranks of members. They are as follows:
Pillager - this is the rank of all new members to the group for their 1st year.
Man-at-Arms - this is the rank for all official members of the group.
Knight - this is the rank for any officer of the group.
To be more in-tune with the times, Woman-at-Arms and Dame may be used for the ranks above.
At this time there are no plans to introduce any additional honorifics or titles.
Do we have to address people by title?
No, the ranks are for distinguishing who is a member and who is still in the process. The only time a rank may be mentioned is during ceremonies, at no other times will this be needed or used.
Who runs the group? Can I help?
The Captain runs the group, but does so with advice from his Knight’s, who in-turn listen to the Man-at-Arms and Pillagers. All have a fair say in what the group does, so to that end the best way to help would be to stay active and share your thoughts.
What kind of events does the group attend?
The group will primarily attend Renaissance Fairs and similar type events. We may hold other events outside those just listed, but those details will be on a case-by-case basis and cannot be guaranteed.
What is the goal of the group? Is there a goal? Why should I bother?
Yes, the group’s goal is to find like-minded individuals to have fun with, all while visiting events such as Renaissance Fairs and Festivals. We want people who share our enthusiasm for dressing up and being the ambiance for whatever event we visit.
The goal is to have fun and enjoy each other, the event, and those that we may interact with during our day.
If any of this appeals to you, then we would be happy to have you join us!
